Anyone scrolling through a counselling directory will know how overwhelming the choice can be. Everyone looks friendly, they all describe themselves as warm and supportive, so how do you choose?
The relationship between you and your therapist is more important than any other factor, so rather than asking what modality they use, consider asking what they hope to achieve with clients. Does their reply align with your hopes? If you are looking for a neuroaffirming therapist, rather than asking if they are (it is likely that all will say yes), ask them what they think it means to be neuroaffirming.
If you feel more comfortable with a male or female, old or young, businesslike or relaxed counsellor, trust your instincts and make the choice 𝘺𝘰𝘶 want. Good luck on your journey
